Why should I learn SQL?

This is a really good question, and one that definitely needs to be answered. Given that it is a 50-year-old technology and there are so many cool new technologies and platforms available today, “Why should I learn SQL?”

There are actually multiple answers to this question.

First, let’s talk about data science, which is a popular topic these days.

Data Science consists of two words: Data and Science.

Here, we use the available data and run various statistical algorithms to try to predict meaningful results from the data.

For the science part of the job, there are many ready-made algorithms and coding platforms such as Python and R available. These are generally developed by scientists and engineers, and we can only intervene in their parameters.

However, when we look at the data part of the process, this is much more important, and we need to intervene in this part a lot more. This is because real-world data is not as clean as educational material datasets, and we have to clean this data with our own hands, so to speak.

Every data science project involves a serious data preprocessing process. Since we usually work with structured data in such projects, the structure and language we will use to preprocess this data is SQL.

Additionally, when we look at trends in the data world, particularly in Turkey and globally, and examine job postings related to data, we see that SQL is the most sought-after skill.
